ABOUT THE TOWN OF HANNUT

The town of Hannut is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture beautiful images there.

Hannut is a French-speaking town in Belgium, located in the province of Liège in the Walloon Region and in Hesbaye.
The town is situated in Central Belgium, 65 km from Brussels, 35 km from Liège, 30 km from Namur and 23 km from Huy. The E40 motorway runs 5–10 km to the north and east of the town. Hannut is also crossed by the RN 64 (Tirlemont–Huy) and the RN 80 (Namur–Hasselt), and lies at the end of the RN 240, which connects it to Wavre.

Opened at the end of 2006, the RAVeL (Réseau autonome des voies lentes) runs through the Hesbaye municipality from the language border to the municipality of Braives.

In addition to its characteristic narrow streets and distinctive atmosphere, Hannut offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The town provides a suitable backdrop for photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.

The Hesbaye region generally receives little rainfall, except for the Gette in the north-west, the Geer in the east and the Mehaigne in the centre. As a result, the villages of Villers-le-Peuplier, Poucet, Cras-Avernas, Trognée, Bertrée, Avernas-le-Bauduin, Grand and Petit Hallet, Wansin and Thisnes (via the Absoul) belong to the Scheldt catchment area via the Henri-Fontaine, the Gette, the Dyle and the Démer. In contrast, Lens-St-Rémy lies near the source of the Geer and therefore belongs to the Meuse catchment area, as do the villages drained by the Mehaigne.

As the gateway to the provinces of Limburg and Walloon Brabant, Hannut is often described as a ‘puzzle’ of a town. This metaphor reflects its many facets, which together make Hannut an endearing place that combines originality and diversity.

Its 17 villages offer a variety of mountain-bike and walking trails, not to mention the RAVel, which crosses the region from north to south.

Its distinctive ‘Open Field’ landscape offers visitors remarkable views dotted with burial mounds (evidence of a strong presence during the Gallo-Roman period), church spires and square-shaped farmhouses, reminding us that its heritage is essentially rural and religious.
