ABOUT THE COMMUNE OF LEUZE-EN-HAINAUT

Leuze-en-Hainaut is home to countless talented photographers, and opportunities for beautiful images abound.

The commune is located in the Walloon region in the province of Hainaut.

Leuze-en-Hainaut grew up around a monastery dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul around the middle of the 7th century, at the time of Saint-Amand . It was a royal tax that Emperor Charlemagne gave to Ludger, the first bishop of Munster, in 802. It is mentioned in the deed of partition of the kingdom of Lotharingia, in 870, between Charles the Bald, king of France, and Louis, king of Germania; this town fell to Charles . Leuze was located in the coal forest and was part of the ancient Burbant.
Leuze was renamed Leuze-en-Hainaut when the communes merged in January 1977.

Leuze-en-Hainaut is rich in folklore:
- The King's Dance, which takes place on the last Monday in June. A specifically local tradition, Thieulain's 'Danse du Roi' has existed since at least 1590, without interruption except during periods of war.
- Les Rois brouzés: every year, on January 06, the 'Rois Brouzés' festival takes place, part of our Leuzois folklore.
All the town's children are invited to dress up in costume and go to the houses where they will receive a coin after singing the traditional song.
- Leuze-en-Floralie: as every year, at dawn on May 1st, florists, nurserymen and horticulturists invade the Grand-Place and the Place du Jeu de Balle to set up a carpet of flowers, plants and shrubs of all kinds and colors.
