ABOUT PHILIPPEVILLE

Philippeville is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture beautiful images there.

Philippeville is a French-speaking town in Belgium, located in the Walloon Region within the province of Namur.

The fortified town was created during the 15th and 16th centuries, a period of conflict between the Kingdom of France and the Dukes of Burgundy. This rivalry continued when the Burgundian territories passed to the House of Habsburg at the end of the 15th century following the marriage of Mary of Burgundy, daughter of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, to Maximilian I of the House of Habsburg. At the same time, the War of the Burgundian Succession at the end of the 15th century led to the loss of Picardy to the Burgundian Netherlands, with the border shifting northwards to the boundary with Artois, which remained under Burgundian control.
However, it was above all the invention and subsequent widespread adoption of artillery in the 15th century – which rendered medieval fortifications obsolete – that prompted these two powers, during the 16th century, to construct numerous fortifications along their shared border.

In addition to its many picturesque narrow streets and distinctive atmosphere, Philippeville offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The town is well suited for photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
Philippeville is a multifaceted town, well suited to photography.

Philippeville’s tourist attractions include, amongst others, the church at Jamagne and the old cemetery at Fagnolle.
