ABOUT THE CITY OF THUIN
The town of Thuin is home to countless talented photographers, and the opportunities for beautiful images are legion.
Thuin is a town in the Walloon region of Belgium, capital of a district in the province of Hainaut. This medieval town is perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Sambre and Biesmelleau valleys. It borders the communes of Beaumont, Fontaine-l'Évêque, Ham-sur-Heure-Nalinnes, Lobbes, Merbes-le-Château, Montigny-le-Tilleul and Walcourt.
Thuin is known as the capital of the inland waterway industry, as many barge owners come from here and choose to stay here when they retire.
Its typical cobbled streets take us back into history... With its "Fluide" contemporary art trail, the town can be discovered through the works of art. On the south side, the Jardins Suspendus (Hanging Gardens), classified as an "exceptional site", offer a unique setting in Hainaut! On the north side, the Sambre will surprise you with its verdant meanders, manual locks, barges, boatmen's quarter and RAVeL.
Not to be forgotten, of course, is the belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The only vestige of a collegiate church razed to the ground in 1811, it dominates both the Sambre and Biesmelle valleys, and the view from its summit is breathtaking!
