ABOUT THE TOWN OF THUIN
The town of Thuin is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture striking images there.
Thuin is a town in the Walloon Region and the district capital of the province of Hainaut. The medieval town sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valleys of the Sambre and Biesmelleau. It borders the municipalities of Beaumont, Fontaine-l’Évêque, Ham-sur-Heure-Nalinnes, Lobbes, Merbes-le-Château, Montigny-le-Tilleul and Walcourt.
Thuin is known as the capital of inland waterway transport, as many houseboat owners come from there and choose to settle there when they retire.
Its typical cobbled streets take us back in time… With its ‘Fluide’ contemporary art trail, the town reveals itself through its artworks. To the south, the Hanging Gardens, classified as an ‘exceptional site’, offer a setting unique to Hainaut. To the north, the River Sambre surprises with its lush meanders, manual locks, barges, the boatmen’s quarter and the RAVeL.
Its belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the sole surviving element of a collegiate church destroyed in 1811. It overlooks the two valleys of the Sambre and the Biesmelle, and the view from its summit is impressive.
In addition to its many picturesque alleyways and distinctive atmosphere, Thuin offers numerous green spaces and attractive walks. The town provides a suitable setting for distinctive photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
Thuin is a multifaceted town, well suited to photography.
