Verviers is a French-speaking town in the Walloon region of Belgium, capital of a district in the province of Liège, at the eastern end of the industrial belt. Today's Verviers is the result of the merger on January 1, 1977 of the former communes of Verviers, Ensival, Heusy, Lambermont, Petit-Rechain and Stembert.
Verviers is also the center of an urban agglomeration, known as the "agglomération verviétoise", made up of the communes of Dison, Pepinster and part of the village of Polleur, with a population of around 85,000; it is therefore the province's 2nd largest city after Liège, making it one of the ten largest in the Walloon Region.
