Virton is a French-speaking town in Belgium, located in the Walloon region and Belgian Ardennes, and the administrative center of a district in the province of Luxembourg. It is part of the Lorraine gaumaise region.

Virton is located 190 km southeast of Brussels and 43 km west of Luxembourg City.

Virton is the capital of the Gaume region, where the traditional vernacular is Gaumais. The commune is part of Belgian Lorraine, the only Jurassic (Secondary Era) geological region in Belgium.
The Ton, a tributary of the Chiers, crosses the town on its south-eastern edge, before joining the Vire a little further south.
The Virton-Saint-Mard railway station is served by line 165 Athus-Libramont.
Virton is the starting point for route nationale 82 leading to Arlon. It is crossed by route nationale 87 linking the French border with Lamorteau (Rouvroy) and Parette (Attert), and by route nationale 88 linking Florenville and Athus (Aubange).
