ABOUT THE TOWN OF WAREMME

The town of Waremme is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture beautiful images there.

Waremme is a French-speaking town in Belgium, situated in the Walloon Region and is the district capital of the province of Liège.

The town is situated on the River Geer in the loess region of Hesbaye, which has fostered agriculture (cereals and sugar beet) and the development of an agri-food industry in the region. Agricultural land still accounts for 70 per cent of the total area, the vast majority of which is arable. Heathland and woodland together make up less than 1 per cent. The town is also a commercial and educational hub for the region (with some 5,000 pupils enrolled on a permanent basis), offering administrative, cultural and sporting attractions.

In addition to its many picturesque narrow streets and distinctive atmosphere, Waremme offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The town provides a suitable backdrop for photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
Waremme is a multifaceted town, well suited to photography.

The Waremme Nature Reserve was established in 1980. It covers approximately 17 hectares, and its outer and inner dykes stretch for more than 3 kilometres. The reserve comprises five settling ponds from the Waremme pulp mill, which is now closed. It is a relatively secluded and peaceful site. The herbaceous vegetation is notable, comprising mainly ruderal, field and hydrophilic species.
The ponds are notable for their ornithological interest. In the dry Hesbaye region, they form a wetland oasis that concentrates birdlife, and the varied habitats (mudflats, open water, short-grass wasteland, tall-grass wasteland, scrub, etc.) attract numerous breeding birds rarely found elsewhere in the area. Every year, in collaboration with the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, members of the Reserve carry out bird ringing. This enables them, on the one hand, to observe migratory movements and, on the other, to compile an inventory of the small winged world that lives in or passes through Waremme.
