ABOUT ALSACE
Alsace is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture beautiful images there.
Alsace is a cultural and historical region in eastern France, bordering Germany and Switzerland. Its inhabitants are known as Alsatians.
Geographically, it lies between the Vosges mountains and the River Rhine. Part of the Rhineland region of Europe, Alsace is situated at the heart of the ‘blue banana’.
From 1956 to 2015, the Alsace region was also an administrative region comprising the two departments of the Rhin, which merged with the Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine regions to form the Grand Est region on 1 January 2016. However, a new local authority known as the ‘European Community of Alsace’ will be established on 1 January 2021.
Alsace forms part of the cultural landscape of Central Europe and is historically a region where Germanic languages (Alemannic and Franconian) are spoken, alongside some Romance-speaking areas (the Welches valleys and certain municipalities in the Sundgau). Despite its strong identity, Alsace is a cosmopolitan, multicultural region with a high degree of religious diversity (see History of the Jews in Alsace, Protestantism in Alsace and Mennonites of Alsace). The historical region was subdivided into three entities: Upper Alsace, Lower Alsace and the Republic of Mulhouse. The latter embarked on industrial development as early as 1746 and, under military pressure, voted to join France in 1798.
Alsace, with its picturesque narrow streets, unique atmosphere, numerous green spaces and beautiful walks, provides an ideal setting for photo reports that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
