ICE 2020 Day: Today and beyond

European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) Day is a conference that the EESC and its civil society partners have been organizing every year since 2012, the year of publication of Regulation No. 211/2011, which laid the foundations for the ECI. The ninth ECI Day, to be held in 2020, will be marked by a major development, namely the entry into force of the new regulation, which significantly improves and simplifies the ECI procedure. The conference will be devoted to a more global vision of citizen participation in general, with the aim of placing the ECI in the context of current societal developments. The EESC plans to organize an interactive round table with researchers and authors on citizen participation in the age of new technologies, at a time when models of public consultation are developing that leave more room for deliberation and debate on the future of Europe, to enable an open debate on current and future forms of participation.
