European Consumer Day 2019

The 21st edition of the "European Consumer Day" was held on March 27, 2019 at the EESC in Brussels (room JDE 62) from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

The millennial generation and the new consumption models driven by new technologies, as well as their role in this process, were at the heart of the debate at this new edition. Three key sectors for young people were the subject of participative workshops. These were mobility, food and clothing.

A debate was also organized to measure the impact of social media on young people and their consumer choices. We put the following questions to our speakers:

  • How can we define young consumers? What trends can we identify in their consumption habits?

  • Is the EU's current consumer policy, based on protection and ownership, adapted to today's consumption patterns?

  • What potential regulatory developments need to be taken into account to adapt consumer policy to these new models?

Our professional photographer Emilie GOMEZ captured the event perfectly on European Consumer Day 2019. She captured the highlights of the various workshops and panel discussions at the Comité Economique et Social Européen (CESE) or European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
