Whether you are looking straight into the lens, smiling, looking up or down, or striking a melancholic pose – it does not matter. The most important thing is that the portrait conveys emotion. Standing in front of the camera can sometimes feel a little stressful. The subject may not feel entirely at ease at the start of a portrait shoot, and their smile or facial expression may become tense during the session. However, a professional photographer will quickly put you at ease, guide you through each pose and capture a flattering portrait; the key is trust between photographer and subject.
