Liège-Gillemins, opened in 2009, was designed by the Catalan architect Santiago Calatrava, a specialist in bridges and stations, such as the Lyon Saint-Exupéry TGV station and the Pont de l’Assut de l’Or in Valence. The station features his signature structures, characterised by repeated organic lines and a sense of lightness created by the numerous openings and transparent elements. The architect has masterfully combined steel, glass and concrete. The result is a work of futuristic art that travellers can admire while waiting on the platforms.
It is beautiful, majestic and Belgian. This station certainly deserves its place among the world’s most beautiful stations thanks to its elegant, sweeping lines, its purity and its perfect perspectives.
