Couvin is a French-speaking town in Belgium, situated in the Walloon Region in the province of Namur and forming part of the district of Philippeville. Located in the Calestienne region and bordering France, Couvin was the birthplace of Donnay tennis rackets. Couvin is the administrative centre of the canton comprising its own municipality and that of Viroinval.
It is located in the centre of a region bounded by Charleville to the south, Charleroi to the north, Givet to the west and Bauraing to the east.

The municipality of Couvin is located in southern Belgium, in the far south-west of the province of Namur, within the Philippeville district and close to France, with which it shares a border to the south. The town lies 65 km south-west of Namur, 110 km south of Brussels and 250 km north-east of Paris. By area, the municipality is the second largest in Belgium at 206.93 km², after Tournai. It borders the province of Hainaut to the west and the department of the Ardennes to the south.

Couvin has several localities, including Fonds-de-l’Eau, which it shares with the Pesche district, and La Platinerie. The old town is partly situated on one of the many cliffs of the Calestienne, Meanwhile, the Faubourg Saint-Germain – named after the former Saint-Germain church, destroyed in the 1830s–1840s and once standing on what is now Place Général Piron – lies at the foot of the same cliff, separated from it by the Eau Noire.
