ABOUT THE TOWN OF DINANT
The town of Dinant is home to many talented photographers, and it offers numerous opportunities to capture striking images.
Dinant is a French-speaking town in Belgium, situated in the Walloon Region and the Belgian Ardennes; it is the district capital of the province of Namur.
It is situated on the right bank of the Meuse, 90 kilometres south of Brussels, 28 kilometres from Namur and 16 kilometres north of Givet in France. As of 1 December 2019, Dinant had a population of 13,415 (6,573 men and 6,842 women), giving a population density of 134.42 inhabitants per square kilometre. The Meuse Valley, with its numerous monuments, the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Leffe – still inhabited by Premonstratensians – the tower and caves of Mont-Fat, and its ‘La Merveilleuse’ cave, make it a major tourist destination in the Meuse region. Numerous river cruises depart from the town of Copères (from the Germanic word ‘koper’, meaning ‘copper’).
Furthermore, the town and the cultural centre very often organise musical events related to the saxophone: Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone, was born in Dinant on 6 November 1814.
Dinant is also known for having given its name to the craft of making objects from copper and brass: ‘dinanderie’.
In addition to its many charming narrow streets and distinctive atmosphere, Dinant offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The town provides a suitable backdrop for distinctive photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
Dinant is a multifaceted town, well suited to photography.
