ABOUT FONTAINE-L’ÉVÊQUE

The town of Fontaine-l’Evêque is home to numerous skilled photographers, and it offers many opportunities to capture striking images.

Fontaine-l’Evêque is a French-speaking town in Belgium, located in the Walloon Region within the province of Hainaut, between Charleroi and Binche, a region known for its rich folklore.

It is situated 9 km west of Charleroi, on the N90 road towards Mons, approximately 50 km south of Brussels and 15 km east of Binche. It lies between the municipalities of Courcelles and Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont to the north, Charleroi to the east, Anderlues to the west and Gozée to the south. It forms part of the Pays de Charleroi, a region characterised by its industrial past, with coal mining and steel production. Fontaine was once home to mines, and the spoil heaps are still visible today.

Fontaine is crossed by a stream, the Babelonne, which flows into the Ernelle, which in turn flows into the Sambre. It therefore forms part of the Meuse catchment area. The southern part of the municipality, at Leernes, is bounded by the Sambre at Aulne Abbey.

Since the merger of the municipalities, the municipality of Fontaine-l’Évêque has also come to include the former municipalities of Leernes and Forchies-la-Marche.

In addition to its many picturesque alleyways and distinctive atmosphere, Fontaine-l’Evêque offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The town provides a suitable setting for distinctive photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
Fontaine-l’Evêque is a town well worth exploring – a multifaceted city that is perfect for photography.
