Fosses-la-Ville is a French-speaking town in Belgium, located in the Walloon Region, in the province of Namur. Situated in the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse area, it is crossed by the River Biesme.

Fosses-la-Ville is known for its Laetare carnival, during which the regional folk group known as the Chinels parades through the town’s streets.

A biennial ‘walk’ in the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region, the ‘Saint-Feuillen’ – the largest folk walk in the Province of Namur – welcomes several folk groups from Namur. It commemorates the founding of the monastery by Saint Feuillen de Fosses, an Irish monk who came to preach the Gospel. He was murdered by bandits on 31 October 655 whilst passing through Waudez, near Nivelles, during a journey that was to take him to Lagny. Since then, Fosses-la-Ville’s patron saint has enjoyed a growing following and popularity. Consequently, a Celtic cross has been erected at the entrance to the collegiate church, and a small chapel, built exactly as they were in Feuillen’s time, has been constructed close to the Chapel of Saint Brigid, overlooking the valley in which the town lies.

Fosses-la-Ville is promoted through initiatives by local organisations: town-centre tours, tours of the collegiate church, tours of the Sainte-Brigide Chapel site, Heritage Days, the Christmas market, the History Circle, Lake Bambois, etc. Fosses-la-Ville has a fascinating history, whatever period is examined: even today, it remains a vibrant town that epitomises Wallonia, its folklore and the Walloon way of life.
