ABOUT THE TOWN OF JODOIGNE

The town of Jodoigne is home to numerous skilled photographers, and it offers many opportunities to capture striking images.

Jodoigne is situated in central Belgium, on the border between Brabant and Hesbaye. The town lies some 40 kilometres south-east of Brussels, 60 km north-west of Liège and 20 km south of Leuven. The villages within the municipality are: Piétrain, Saint-Jean-Geest, Saint-Remy-Geest, Zetrud-Lumay, Dongelberg, Mélin, Lathuy, Jodoigne-Souveraine and Jauchelette.

Jodoigne’s tourist attractions include, amongst others:

• Château de l’Ardoisière – the former holiday home of a prominent family from Jodoigne. It owes its name to the fact that slate was once quarried there.The site once had, and now once again has, a hydroelectric plant on the River Gette. Between 2010 and 2013 the Château de l’Ardoisière was completely renovated and is currently used as a venue for seminars and weddings. The estate features a park and a pond.
• Pastur Castle: formerly the residence of the Counts of Duras and the stately home of Duke Henry I of Brabant, it was rebuilt in 1730 by the Count of Romsée. The building, constructed from white Gobertange stone, was acquired on 15 June 1849 by the notary Philippe Pastur, who named it Pastur Castle; it is now the town hall.
• La Ramée Abbey in Jauchelette.
• The Château des Cailloux.
• Gobert or Ghobert Castle, built in 1792.
• Jodoigne-Souveraine Castle.
• The Maison de la Vicomté is built of cut stone and features a large turret. The house of the Glymes family is first mentioned as early as 1530.
• The Hôtel des Libertés.
• The Gérardin Museum (abandoned).
