ABOUT TOURNAI

The town of Tournai is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture beautiful images there.

Tournai is situated in Picard Wallonia and Romanic Flanders; it is the district capital of the province of Hainaut and the seat of the Diocese of Tournai. Together with Lille, it forms part of a Eurodistrict: the Lille-Courtrai-Tournai Eurometropolis. It is the first European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation in Europe.

Tournai has a rich history. It is one of the oldest towns in Belgium, alongside Arlon and Tongeren. As the first capital of the Frankish kingdom, it played a significant historical, economic, religious and cultural role within the County of Flanders during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The city is also renowned for its vast Notre-Dame Cathedral, which has five towers and a rose window, and its Grand-Place, a triangular square dominated by the 12th-century belfry of Tournai, which offers a view over the city. It is the oldest belfry in Belgium and is listed as a Major Heritage Site of Wallonia. Built in the 12th century, it is the oldest surviving belfry in Belgium.

In addition to its many historical and architectural attractions, Tournai offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The city provides a suitable setting for distinctive photo shoots that showcase your company, organisation or institution.

Various walks allow visitors to explore the city, some on foot and others by bike:
– ‘Unusual Tournai’ tour
– ‘Tournai gourmande’ itinerary
– “Bike & Beer” cycle route
– UNESCO guided tour

Tournai is a multifaceted city, well suited to photography.
