ABOUT THE TOWN OF VERVIERS

Verviers is a French-speaking town in Belgium, located in the Walloon Region. It serves as the district capital of the province of Liège, at the eastern end of the industrial belt. The current municipality was formed on 1 January 1977 through the merger of the former municipalities of Verviers, Ensival, Heusy, Lambermont, Petit-Rechain and Stembert.

Verviers is also the centre of an urban conurbation, known as the Verviers conurbation, comprising the municipalities of Dison and Pepinster, as well as part of the village of Polleur, with a population of around 85,000; It is therefore the second-largest town in the province after Liège, ranking among the ten largest towns in the Walloon Region.
