Virton is a French-speaking town in Belgium, situated in the Walloon Region and the Belgian Ardennes; it is the district capital of the Province of Luxembourg. It forms part of the Gaume region of Lorraine.

Virton is situated 190 km south-east of Brussels and 43 km west of Luxembourg City.

Virton is the capital of the Gaume, a region where the traditional vernacular language is Gaumais. The municipality forms part of Belgian Lorraine, the only geological region in Belgium dating from the Jurassic period (Mesozoic Era).
The Ton, a tributary of the Chiers, flows through the south-eastern outskirts of the city before joining the Vire a little further south.
Virton–Saint-Mard railway station is served by line 165 (Athus–Libramont).
Virton is the starting point of the N82 road leading to Arlon. It is crossed by the N87, which links the French border to Lamorteau (Rouvroy) and Parette (Attert), as well as by the N88, which links Florenville and Athus (Aubange).
