ABOUT EPINAL

Epinal is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture striking images there.

Épinal is a French commune in the Vosges department, in the Grand Est region. As the prefecture, it lies to the south of the historic and cultural region of Lorraine. The River Moselle, a tributary of the Rhine, flows through Épinal.
According to the 2017 census, the inner city area (excluding the suburbs) had a population of 31,740. The Épinal urban area had a population of 93,184 in 2015 and 59,586 jobs in its labour market area in 2017. It is by far the largest town in the Vosges and the fourth largest in Lorraine, behind Metz, Nancy and Thionville.

Épinal is the leading economic and commercial centre in the department and therefore plays a major role at regional level within the Sillon Lorrain. The town is experiencing rapid urban expansion and a rising population, which is particularly noticeable in its suburbs; whilst the population of the town centre is tending to stabilise, that of its inner suburbs (Golbey, Chantraine, etc.) and outer suburbs (Thaon-les-Vosges, etc.) is ‘skyrocketing’.

Epinal, known primarily for its printmaking – founded in 1796 by Pellerin – is also renowned for its castle and basilica.

In addition to its many picturesque narrow streets and distinctive atmosphere, Epinal offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The town provides an ideal setting for photographers and for creating unique photo reports that showcase your company, organisation or institution.

Epinal is a multifaceted town, well suited to photography.

Culture lovers should not miss the BMI (Bibliothèque Municipale Intercommunale) and its Salle des Boiseries, steeped in history. Discover the rich collections of the Musée départemental d'art ancien et contemporain for a journey through time, from antiquity to the present day. Continue your visit at the Musée de l’Image with its original exhibitions. Whether you are a dreamer or a budding scientist, explore the galaxies at the Planetarium, one of the most advanced in the world. For a more relaxed evening, enjoy the comfort of Cinés Palace, then unwind at the bowling alley or the ice rink.

Unique in France, the Épinal Planetarium invites adults and children to literally have ‘their heads in the stars’, guiding them through astronomical movements and the Universe that surrounds us. Over the years, projection technology has evolved to full-dome video, offering visitors total immersion in the cosmos and a Full HD image that delivers an exceptional viewing experience.

Open all year round at the Cité de l’Image site near the Port d’Épinal, the Imagerie d’Épinal – which has been in continuous operation since 1796 – and the Musée de l’Image are the ambassadors of what has made the town famous for centuries: images. A visit to this living heritage enterprise is a delight, while the nearby museum, clad entirely in glass, traces the history of images through exhibitions of exceptional quality.

We can provide you with a professional photographer in Epinal whose skills match your requirements for photojournalism.
