Charleville-Mézières is home to numerous talented photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture striking images there.

Charleville-Mézières is a French commune in the Ardennes department, in the Grand Est region. It is divided into four cantons. The Ardenne Métropole urban area, which it forms with the town of Sedan, has a population of 130,000.

Before the merger of the two main municipalities in 1966, the respective demonyms were ‘Carolopolitains’ for Charleville and ‘Macériens’ for Mézières. Its inhabitants are known as ‘Carolomacériens’ or, more commonly, ‘Carolos’. They should not be confused with the ‘Carolorégiens’, the inhabitants of Charleroi, who are also commonly known as ‘Carolos’.

Charleville-Mézières has two distinct histories. Charleville is an ideal city created by Prince Charles de Gonzague in the early 17th century, not far from Mézières, a prosperous market town that had developed during the Middle Ages. During the First World War, the Ardennes was the only department to be entirely occupied. Charleville and Mézières, united for the first time, served as the headquarters of the German High Command and hosted Emperor Wilhelm II, his court and the Crown Prince. The town was re-established in 1965–66 following the merger of the six communes nestled within the bends of the Meuse: Charleville, Mézières, Le Theux, Étion, Mohon and Montcy-Saint-Pierre.

The town of Mézières began to develop in the 10th century along the ancient Roman road between Reims and Cologne, nestled in a bend of the River Meuse. The town derived its wealth from trade between Flanders, Champagne and Burgundy.

In addition to its many characteristic narrow streets and unique atmosphere, Charleville-Mézières boasts numerous green spaces and beautiful walks that are not to be missed. It is an ideal setting for distinctive photo reports that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
