Arras is a French commune in the Pas-de-Calais department of the Hauts-de-France region. The historic and administrative capital of the Pas-de-Calais department, located at the heart of the largest agri-food economic zone north of Paris and the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais, Arras nevertheless has a population of 41,000, making it the second-largest town in the department after Calais. It is also the seat of the Arras urban community, which comprises 108,000 inhabitants across 46 municipalities.

Built in the pure Flamboyant Gothic style, it was completed nearly a century later, in 1554. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 and voted the French people’s favourite monument in 2015, Arras’s iconic tower rises 75 metres above the Place des Héros.

The Citadel of Arras is a unique site in France. Built by Vauban in the 17th century, it preserves a rich heritage from three centuries of military history. Demilitarised and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008, it is now a ‘small town within a town’, rich in remarkable historic buildings, leafy walking trails and leisure activities.
