ABOUT THE TOWN OF LENS
The town of Lens is home to numerous skilled photographers, and there are many opportunities to capture striking images there.
Lens is a French commune and sub-prefecture of the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region.
Although it is only the fourth-largest town in the department and the nineteenth-largest in the region, with a population of over 31,000, its urban area is one of the most densely populated in France. The Douai-Lens urban area is the fifteenth largest in the country. It also lies directly within the sphere of influence of the ‘Lille metropolitan area’, a metropolitan region with a population of nearly 3.8 million, the centre of which – the city of Lille – is just thirty kilometres away.
The town of Lens is best known for having been one of the main urban centres of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais coalfield (alongside the Compagnie des mines de Lens), which continues to have a significant economic, social, landscapely and culturally; for its football team, Racing Club de Lens (RCL); and, more recently, for the Louvre Lens museum, which opened in December 2012.
In addition to its many picturesque narrow streets and distinctive atmosphere, Lens offers numerous green spaces and pleasant walks. The city provides an ideal setting for photographers and for creating unique photo reports that showcase your company, organisation or institution.
Lens is a multifaceted town, well suited to photography.
The City of Lens has, for several years, pursued an active policy of beautification, carrying out large-scale projects that have profoundly transformed its image. The landscaping work has made the city more welcoming and has improved the quality of life for its residents. The arrival of the Louvre-Lens has provided an opportunity to enrich the city’s tree heritage.
Lens, with its rich mining heritage, is now turning towards a policy of sustainable development, notably with the appointment in 2014 of a councillor responsible for sustainable development, whose remit is to implement an action plan based on three of the four pillars of sustainable development (the economy, social issues and the environment). The local authority also wishes to involve citizens in its projects through a policy of participatory democracy, which has taken shape over the years through the creation of neighbourhood councils and citizens’ councils, as well as through the organisation of numerous public meetings and consultations with the local population prior to the implementation of public space development works.
The local council, municipal staff and residents are proud to take part in the ‘Villes et Villages Fleuris’ scheme and are enthusiastic about the prospect of being awarded a title that symbolises and recognises the efforts they have made to improve their living environment.
We can provide you with a professional photographer in Lens whose skills match your photographic reporting requirements.
