Choosing the right photo lab is an art in itself for a professional photographer.

How can you be sure that the photos from the photo lab will be of a high standard?

To answer this tricky question, which many professional photographers and photography enthusiasts ask themselves, we met Stéphane Luyten, the owner of the Colorfields lab in Wavre, Walloon Brabant, on the outskirts of Brussels.

Stéphane discusses his profession, his passion and answers our questions directly.

Tell us about Colorfields.

COLORFIELDS – Fine Art Printing – is a photographic laboratory founded over 40 years ago. Our mission is to produce high-quality prints on the most suitable papers available on the market or on HD aluminium (ChromaLuxe®). We began our operations in Brussels before relocating to a spacious, modern building in Wavre Nord at the end of 2020. A team of five people works with passion and professionalism to deliver impeccable results.

Why do photographers choose Colorfields?

Photographers choose Colorfields for our personalised welcome and our understanding of their expectations and needs. They particularly appreciate the support, advice and services we provide. Our expertise and the quality of our prints, collages and framing are recognised by many professional photographers. They feel confident when they walk through the door of our professional lab, and we take particular care to meet deadlines.

The care we take with our frames and the fact that they are made in our own workshops is also a plus.

What types of products or services does Colorfields offer?

We offer a wide range of photography products and services, all designed to provide quality and added value to the photographers and clients who place their trust in us.

  • HD scans.

  • Traditional silver-based prints on Fuji paper up to A3 size (including 10 × 15 cm or 13 × 18 cm).

  • Large-format photo-quality prints.

  • Fine Art prints (the first laboratory in Belgium to be Canson®-approved).

  • Photo montages on rigid substrates, including Dibond.

  • ChromaLuxe® (high-definition aluminium produced using a sublimation process = heat infusion). It is our flagship product.
Colorfields was the first photo lab in Belgium to offer this medium – eight years ago. These photo prints deliver vibrant colours and deep blacks, and are highly resistant to scratches, UV light and water (they can even be displayed outdoors).
We offer ChromaLuxe® in sizes ranging from 10 x 10 cm to 120 x 240 cm, in gloss, satin or matt finishes.

  • Framing and delivery.

It’s not just photographers who visit your premises. Could you tell us a bit more about that?

In fact, in addition to professional and amateur photographers, we regularly supply customers who simply want to treat themselves – or treat someone else – to beautiful prints.  We also work regularly for communications agencies and architects who commission us to carry out projects – sometimes on a large scale – such as decorating hotels or offices. We also produce obituary notices and commemorative photographs for numerous funeral directors.

For a professional photographer, selecting a reliable print lab that understands your expectations, advises you, supports you and, like you, is committed to high-quality work is crucial. Their professional expertise and choice of techniques and materials are essential for capturing and sharing emotions – both your own as a photographer and those of your clients.
